Technical Sergeant Caldwell was a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Provisional Marine Brigade.

He was Killed in Action while leading his men against the entrenched enemy at O-Bong-ni Ridge, Naktong River Bulge, South Korea on August 18, 1950.

Technical Sergeant Caldwell was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal,

the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation

and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
