home repair

homerepair_blogHer husband had walked out on them in the middle of a garage sale, in the middle of a rare blue Binghamton summer’s day.  She knew as surely as if he had bent over her, lanky as he was, and whispered it into her ear, his blond hair brushing her skin.  He was simply—gone.

Home Repair by Liz Rosenberg is “Everything you could look for in a novel: humor, deep emotion, rich and compelling story lines, likable, zesty characters who became as familiar as old friends, and an immensely satisfying ending.” — Ron Hansen, author of Exiles

Directions for Heartbreak Diet, Week One

Supplies required: toaster, bread.

Take slice of bread out of the fridge.  Place in toaster oven.

Wait five minutes.  Try to read newspaper while waiting.  Burst into tears at the wedding announcements.

Check cold bread.  Plug in the toaster.  Wander upstairs.  Make the bed with cotton sheets bought on last anniversary.  Sit on made bed, staring blankly.  Rush downstairs when smoke alarm goes off in the kitchen.

Blackened toast is probably done.  Throw away.  Repeat each day for a week.
