The Fayette County Courthouse at  La Grange, Texas is a magnificent structure.  On the courthouse grounds  is a monument commemorating the men who escaped from the  battle of Salado Creek near San Antonio and later captured and killed.  On one side of the monument is listed the names of the men who died; another side is etched Dawson’s Men.

Another side has a list of men who were killed after the Mier Expedition – those who ‘drew the black bean.’
